The Tooth Fairy

Xander lost another tooth on Monday! This is tooth#3. So you know what that means – the Tooth Fairy visited us that night:)

I’ll let you in on an embarrassing secret… The Tooth Fairy often gets lost on the way to our house. Sometimes the tooth can stay under the pillow for a couple days before the tooth fairy finds her way here. Oh the shame!

Having said this, when Xander woke up yesterday morning – he completely forgot to check. At breakfast, we asked him if the Tooth Fairy came – he said ‘Oh shoot, I forgot.’

Ethan then started to whine about the fact that the Tooth Fairy has never come to visit him and he never gets any money! While Alex was explaining to him,again, that the Tooth Fairy brings $$ in exchange for a TOOTH, Xander snuck upstairs (unbeknownst to us) and did the most selfless thing imaginable for a 7 yr old…

He came back downstairs and said to Ethan ‘E – lets go get dressed.’

Then Ethan came downstairs happy as a clam, because the Tooth Fairy had visited him. HIM, Ethan – the boy who has not yet lost a tooth.

Xander took his tooth money and put it under his brother’s pillow.

***Melt my heart****

You don’t know my son – but Xander giving away money, is the equivalent of a man dying of thirst, giving away his last drop of water!

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again – I really believe that all this kid has been through (with his illness) has made him the kindest, most empathetic person I know.

Needless to say – he ended up getting double the $$ from Mum & Dad, because we were so proud of him:)  God, I love this kid!

Tuesday’s Tutorial {1 up mushroom}

I hope that most of the people that come here and check me out have little boys who love Mario! Because now that the party is done, I have enough Mario material to last a lifetime. I’m just sayin’ – expect to learn a whole lot about Mario’s world over the next month or two:)

For the party we decorated our basement with Mario characters – the kids loved it.  I printed the face onto a piece of cream construction paper, and then I used the template for the mushroom on red & orange construction paper and Voilà!

I also bought 12×12 scrapbook paper in brown, and drew black lines around the edges to make it look like the bricks look after the mushroom come out. If you want the printable for the 1 up Mushroom, just click on the picture above.

That’s it for me today, short and sweet! I am actually getting ready to head out the door to the hospital. I’ve been having trouble breathing the past month or so – so my Dr has ordered some tests at the hospital to see what’s going on. Wish me luck!

The Challenge

My oh my, am I in a slump. This is the second week in a row where I did not get in my calories or my exercise!  This is the end of Week 15 – so only 1 week left in this 4 week session, points tally and bragging rights next week!

I’m still feeling pretty awful today, I’ve got a terrible cold and my breathing is really bugging me. Because of having all my Asthma tests scheduled for tomorrow, I haven’t been able to use any of my puffers since Saturday. So I don’t see myself getting back on the band wagon this week either:(

I am going to set my calories this week to lose 1lb and hope for the best. I hope you guys did better than I did!

Having said that, I did managed to lose 0.3lbs. I think that’s really a false reading, I just didn’t eat or drink much of anything yesterday because of this cold, so I think I’m dehydrated. But I’ll take it – a loss is a loss:)

Scavenger Hunt Sunday #5

Another week – another Scavenger Hunt:) I found this weeks prompt H.A.R.D.  I don’t know if it’s because I am sick and my brain is just not functioning that well, or what – but all creativity seems to have left me!

Anyway this week’s prompts were as follows:

Crossed
A Glimpse
Handwritten
Bliss
Gray

1. Crossed
I am a reformed Catholic – meaning I was raised Catholic but haven’t practised much myself in recent years. That being said, as soon as I saw this prompt, I thought of a Crucifix.

2. A Glimpse
A glimpse into my son’s mind: Orange + Straw = Juice
This one really stumped me. Until my son saw an orange and a straw, and got the bright idea that if he stuck said straw into the orange, he should be able to get juice out. He sucked and sucked until his face was almost blue, but never got any juice.

3. Handwritten
This was another tough one, this weeks prompts were hard for me!  Have I mentioned that yet? Here is the handwritten note in my Valentines card from my hubby. I thought it was pretty funny:)

4. Bliss
There is nothing my youngest loves more than a pyjama day, except for video games. So here is Ethan, playing on his DS in his PJs. This is his Bliss!

5. Gray
Yeah – I really phoned it in one this one… I changed an archived picture to black & white – and got a lot of gray! I’m so very creative:)

Can’t wait to see what everyone else did! Maybe it will get my creative juices flowing again!!

It’s The Little Things

It’s been a while since I linked up with Lindsay for an ‘It’s the Little Things’ post, but right now this post is a must!

It is sometimes so easy to take your life for granted. I am certainly guilty of that. But the month of February has made me realise just how lucky I am.

Earlier this month a family friend lost his 3yr battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease). I don’t know if you know much about the disease, but I can’t think of a worse disease to die from. As your muscles weaken, you lose the ability to walk and move your arms, and eventually you are no longer able to contract your lungs so you are unable to breath.

Even though the course of the disease sounds so hard – the hardest part of the disease to me is that there is no cure, nothing you can do to prolong your life. Once you are diagnosed, you just have to sit and wait for your muscles to atrophy.  There is no hope, nothing to keep your spirits alive.

I have lost people I have loved to Cancer, and that was horrible. But at least with Cancer, you feel like if you fight hard enough – you might have a chance. But to have that part of the equation removed – to have to just wait to die… It just breaks my heart, for him & his family. He was only 41.

My uncle has been battling Lung Cancer and has been fighting a great fight. But the poor guy has had more obstacles to face in this battle than anyone should have to overcome.

An acquaintance of mine lost her mother to Cancer this month. A girlfriend of mine is dealing with her 4yr old son having heart issues, along with a whole other pile of stuff

If all these things going on around me don’t make me stop and take stock of my wonderful life, then I don’t know what will.

Here are the little things that I appreciated about my life this week:

A son who thinks he’s Max, the little boy in  the movie Real Steel. He has been walking around the house in this vest all week, even though it is -1 outside, because he wants to look like Max. He has had me video him dancing like Max and boxing like Atom at least 30 times this week:)

Another son who is healthy at the moment! And who has the most creative mind – he sees an orange & a straw and gets a bright idea! But then can’t figure out for the life of him, why no juice comes out when he sucks:)

A husband who will let his sons put a princess crown on his head – just to see them smile!

A mother who spent most of her visit on the ground in this position, playing cards with my sons.

And a father who plays with my kids every chance he gets.

I have a family that I love, and who loves me. That’s is actually a not so little thing:)

Have a great weekend everyone!

Hello Hue Little Things

In the Picture {write on}

I have been participating in a self portrait challenge called In The Picture over at Urban Muser, and today is the link up. This month has gone by so fast. Having house guests for most of the month, I haven’t even had a chance to post a single picture to the Flickr page.

Also, I completely forgot about the link up today. I knew that it was that last Friday in February, but I only just realised that today is just that!

This months theme was ‘Write On’. You could either write on a part of your body and take a picture of it, or take a picture and add text to it after the fact. I should have mixed it up more, but ended up adding text to all 4 pictures I used after the fact.

Without further adieu, here are my 4 selfies for February:

I can’t wait to see what everyone else did! And I’m equally excited to find out what next month’s prompt will be!

In The Picture

Project 52 {cabin fever}

This weeks prompt for Project 52 was Cabin Fever. We don’t  link up at My3Boybarians until Friday, but I actually have had Cabin Fever this week and couldn’t wait to post.

We had Ethan’s party on the weekend, and I wasn’t feeling well on Sunday. Then Monday was a holiday here in Ontario, and my boys were both home sick from school on Tuesday and today – so we’ve been cooped up in the house for a while! If that’s not the definition of Cabin Fever – I don’t know what is!

When I saw the prompt, this is how my mind worked:-

Cabin Fever -> Cabin -> Log Cabin

Since I’ve been sick – I didn’t feel like actually going out and driving around to look for a log cabin. So…

Log Cabin -> Pretzel Cabin

So I went to the store after I dropped the boys to school yesterday and bought some pretzels. Mixed up some icing – and Voilà!

Then my boys decided that the Cabin would be perfect homes for their lego men:)

Can’t wait to see everyone else’s interpretations!

Real Steal, Ethan Style

Have you seen this movie? It’s about Robot Boxing, and a father/son relationship. My boys LOVE it! I kid you not – if they haven’t watched it 25 times, they haven’t watched it once. But they don’t just watch it, they mimic every movement on screen – from the boxing to the dancing. It is SO cute.

Well Ethan decided that he wanted to make his own dance video, where he dances like the little boy in movie. He even needed to dress like him! My little performer:)

I can just see it – in 10 years the whole world is going to know his name:)

Sad:(

I just got back from dropping my parents to the airport. I was so sad to see them go:( I really miss not having them close, but it’s so nice when they get to come and visit. I love to see my boys with them especially!

When I had my first son, one of the greatest joys about having a child, for me, was watching my parents with him. I could literally see their love for him emanate from their bodies. Then I had boy #2 and it was the same. But 6 months after Ethan was born, we moved to Canada:(

Luckily, even though we don’t get to see them as often as we’d like, we do get to see an awful lot of them considering that they live 4 000 miles away. And whenever we do get together, their relationship with the boys just picks up right where they left off.

That relationship is so very special to me!

I hope you all are as lucky as we are:)

Weekend Window {Ethan’s Party}

I’m a little late with this post, I should have gotten in up yesterday. But better late than never, right? This weekend was Ethan’s 5th birthday party, and it was a BIG hit! We had so much fun!

I can’t tell you how happy I am to have this party over with. It was a LOT of work, but it was worth it in the end – my son thought it was AWESOME (his words)! Which is all that really matters:)

Hope your weekend was great too!
